Technology is a huge part in our lives in the 21st Century,
watching that film made me wonder if I could possibly be that darning to go
without a computer and texting for three weeks. The three students Kenny,
Caitlin, and Chel made a great video reflecting how difficult school is without
technology; yet, I feel as if it was exaggerated especially with the time
period the movie was made in.
Kenny,
Caitlin, and Chel all fallowed their project by not using technology with some
bumps along the way. Caitlin was my favorite by far, she handled the project
great. By removing the computer completely from her sight she wasn't temped at all;
except the ductape was a little extreme. She learned valuable lessons that I
believe will help her, from time management with her paper to realizing that
computers are that major in our lives. After getting her computer back 5 weeks
later she only spent 30 minutes checking things before she decided to walk away
and do her laundry, where as Chel spent at least 5 hours on his computer doing
absolutely nothing productive. Kenny needed to break the cycle or his Mandarin
class would have been near impossible to catch up on. Kenny was the only
character that I felt used his computer for a purpose, writing blogs, doing
homework, and staying connected with friends on Facebook. All these thing I
feel are a necessity in an average teenagers life. Chel was a baby to say the least and had the
hardest time adjusting. He was the only one who used a proxy and complained to
her nonstop about helping him. I feel as if he learned something from the
project; however, didn't put the effort into it like the others. Except on the
typewriter where he couldn't figure it out.
I would
personally love to try this experience because I haven't adjusted to using my
email and D2L on a constant bases and I am not such a fan of it either. Granted
I need to get used to it soon.
Technology
is important but I feel as if they (Kenny, Caitlin, and Chel)
made it seem as if technology is the only thing. I have grown up with
technology all around myself and its great but I have so much time to go
outside, spend time with friends, and learn new things especially at college
that I don't agree with how they freaked out so much wondering what they would
do without it. This would be a great class project to try out; however, the
only thing different would be that I don't think UWSP has an typewriters. This
video really allowed for me to think about how technology impacts my life and
how I would react in the same situation.
