Journal #2 : Inappropriate Tweets but True

I revolve myself around social media so when I came across the article, "The Best Twitter Comic on the Planet?: An Interview with Rob Delaney," on popmatters.com I had to read it to see what it was all about.  Recently I have started tweeting and it has became a new addiction with my new tweet count at 400 in only a month.  I fallow numerous people and sites on Twitter that interest me, mostly comedy; however, I had never heard of Rob Delaney before.  I looked him up on Twitter and found that his latest tweet was, "Monster Energy just called, said they'd sponsor me to throw a fax machine at a pregnant woman."  How awful!  Yet when watching commercials on TV this is the norm of something you would see, and yes some would also laugh, but is that wrong?

An interview done by Nathan Pensky consisted of questions about Delaney's tweets including the content message he is trying to promote and his role models for his chosen life style as a comedian.  I found this interview to be quite interesting because Delaney talks about how his past has shaped him into the comedian he is today. He had a recent drinking problem and he uses this as an advantage when making some of his jokes.  He believes that being older and more experienced has been an advantage of his so he "can sift through for humor," which makes him more diverse when interacting with crowds.

Rob Delaney has created dirty jokes using personal experiences along with the world news today to brighten peoples moods about certain topics along with informing others about what is happening in the world today.

  1. Its awesome how Delaney uses his real life circumstances to help other people laugh as well as to help himself get through tough situations such as his drinking. I also had no idea who Rob Delaney was, but don't have twitter either, so that may be part of the issue! Its so true that a ton of today's humor is a little heartless, although often times is still funny - when we are aware the person is joking! :)

  2. This is a very wonderful story to come about. Not only did this man overcome his drinking addiction, he has been able to make other people laugh and promote role models he used. Though I have never heard of Rob Delaney or used a twitter account, people can use stories like this to change their lives. He has the ability to look through his tough past and live a happy and comical life that most people would enjoy.

  3. I never heard of Rob Delaney but I do have a twitter myself. I think that it is refreshing that he uses humor on twitter to help himself with his issues like his drinking. He possibly is really helping alot of other people with a similar issue and realize ideas of how they can cope with their issues.
